Álvaro López Miera served as Chief of the General Staff of the FAR for over two decades before succeeding Leopoldo Cintra Frías as Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces at the 8th PCC Congress in April 2021. He oversees the FAR, which controls the GAESA conglomerate (Cuba's largest economic actor) through Gen. Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Callejas.
